The rectory has a spacious but secluded courtyard which gives some intimacy to the building. It is located in a small mountain village: Candas, with just half a dozen residents, where the landscape is composed of green meadows, old, now abandoned farming areas and old chestnut groves where peace and silence prevail. Furthermore, due to its location it is a privileged viewpoint from which to see much of the A Limia region, delimited to the south by the impressive Larouco Mountains, natural border of neighbouring Portugal.

Useful tourist information

The monasteries of Bon Xesús de Trandeiras, close to Xinzo de Limia, where time seems to have stood still for centuries, and San Rosendo at nearby Celanova, are both worth a visit, as well as the defensive towers of Pena, Sandias and Porqueira.
Do not forget to visit the Da Limia Ethnographic Museum in Vilar de Santos, the Museo do Antroido in Xinzo, the old Antela lake visitor centre, the Roman remains of Aquis Querquennis and the visitor centre of the Via Nova, a Roman road which runs between Braga (Portugal) and Astorga.

For nature lovers, from Candas you are just a step away from the remains of what was once Antela Lake, one of the most important wetlands on the Iberian Peninsula until it dried up in the 1960s; Veigas de Porqueira e Ponte Liñares, part of the (Nature network), is less than 10 km away. Also, less than 40 minutes by car is the Baixa Limia - Serra do Xures Nature Reserve, and a little farther the Peneda Geres National Park, in Portugal.
